The wildcat in Bondone

Trento
5 April 2018

Spotted in December and immortalized by camera traps for bears

The image, taken from a camera trap positioned to monitor the movements of the brown bear, is the first "proof" of its presence in Trentino. It's a historic event that is part of the expansion of the species in the Triveneto area and is causing great national interest and curiosity.

We are talking about the European wildcat (Felis silvestris), a species particularly protected by European legislation (Annex IV of the Habitats Directive 43/92 EEC) and national law (Article 2 of Law No. 157/92). The specimen was immortalized on 5th January on the Eastern slopes of Monte Bondone, at about 650m altitude.
