Monitoring of brown bears
The monitoring of brown bears (Ursus arctos) has been carried out by the Autonomous Province of Trento since the 70s. Across the years, new technologies like satellite telemetries (used for specimens with collars), automatic video surveillance from remote stations, camera traps (in collaboration with MUSE - Museum of Science) and, since 2002, genetic monitoring have been used alongside with traditional field survey methods.
Along with the Brenta area, the land inside the Network of Bondone Nature Reserves is one of the most visited by this plantigrade and therefore it is constantly studied and monitored.
Concerned areas:
- Monte Bondone
- Terlago
- Soprasasso
